Last Friday (July 2) about 40 of us woke up at 4:30 in the morning to meet our tour guide, Sarah, to take the Eurostar to PARIS! Almost all of us got only a couple hours of sleep the night before since we got home late from seeing the play, Women Beware Women. I don't remember the train ride besides my ears popping when we went in the tunnel underneath the OCEAN!
All ready to go - Kings Cross Railway Station.
A deodorant ad on the metro in Paris - how appropriate!
I really enjoyed this bookstore. It was filled with thousands of antique books and little niches with couches and cushions for reading. The original bookstore was opened in 1919 and functioned as a lending library as well as a bookstore. It was considered the center of Anglo-American literary culture in Paris. Writers, such as Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald, spent a great deal of time here. My souvenir was Victor Hugo's novel, Hunchback of Notre-Dame.
The Cathedral of Notre-Dame where the kings of France were once crowned.
The beautiful rose window.
We went to the Latin Quarter for dinner. There were thousands of restaurants to choose from. It was interesting because as we walked down the streets all of the owners, managers, or waiters would approach us and try to convince us to eat at their restaurant. We decided to eat at a traditional French restaurant and it was delicious! Some brave souls ordered some escargot...
But Brita and I decided to play it safe and ordered the BEST fondue I have ever eaten!
